Grants are available to enable students to undertake research in the alcohol field leading to a PhD in the UK.

Extended Description

Alcohol Research UK is an independent charity which funds research and other initiatives that increase understanding of alcohol related harm – the causes, the problems and the solutions – and uses findings to influence both policy and practice.

Alcohol Research UK awards grants for students working within the alcohol field and are for costs towards a postgraduate qualification, where the individual studies for three years towards a PhD in the area of alcohol research.

Up to three studentships a year will be jointly-funded. The university applying must be willing to match fund or have an offer of match funding from an appropriate organisation, such as the ESRC.

Eligibility Criteria

The institution providing the study must be a UK university with an offer (or at least a very good possibility of an offer) of match funding. The research proposal must be robust and address Alcohol Research UK’s aims and objectives.

In addition, there must be assurance that the student chosen will be networked in with appropriate academic support.
