The European Defence Agency (EDA) has launched a Preparatory Action for Defence Research (PADR) aimed at assessing and demonstrating the added value of EU supported defence research and technology (R&T).
Part of the new European Defence Fund, the PADR will run over a three-year period (2017-2019) and be a test-bed for proving the relevance of European defence research and laying the foundations for a fully-fledged EU defence R&D programme in the Multi-annual Financial Framework 2021-2027.
There are three calls for proposals:
• European Defence Research Runway
This single-stage Coordination and Support Action Call aims to support strategic technology foresight in the defence domain of individual Member States and of the EU as a whole by performing joint technology foresight activities supported by methodologies such as horizon scanning, technology watch, scientometric tools, expert consultation activities.
• Force Protection and Advanced Soldier Systems Beyond Current Programmes
The purpose of this single-stage Research Action Call is to explore and demonstrate the potential of how technology can further advance and enhance soldier equipment systems beyond current programmes.
• Technological Demonstrator for Enhanced Situational Awareness in a Naval Environment
This single-stage Research Action Call invites proposals that convincingly remove technological obstacles, and combine innovation and integration, in order to demonstrate that situational awareness in a naval environment can be significantly improved.
Applications are accepted from organisations in EU Member States and Norway. Applications for Research Actions must be submitted by at least three organisations in different eligible countries. Applications for Coordination and Support Actions must be submitted by at least one organisation established in an eligible country.
